The Fox by Electric Light Orchestra Part Two

　実際には昨日聴いた曲なんですが、朝6時30分の近鉄電車の中で聴いていました。前にも書いたように、「Jeff Lynneの1/10の才能」というのは（半分だったかも知れませんが）、故村上太一さんがKelly Groucuttのソロアルバムを評して書かれた表現でした。実際、天賦の才と言うことならそうなってしまうでしょうが、Kellyはストーリー性のある「泣かせる歌詞」をたまに書いてくれます。ひとつはDear Mamaで、またひとつがこのThe Foxです。


　ご存知の通り、ELO Part 2のセカンドアルバムMoment Of Truthに入っている曲で、Louis Clarkの重厚なストリングスをバックにKellyが朗々と歌い上げます。歌詞の内容は狐狩りをテーマにしており、狩られる狐を主人公に描いています。この狐は親狐で、巣穴で子供が待っています。特に"I turn to face my death, But nothing comes to stop me breathing"というところが好きです。
　なお、この曲はもともとKellyのソロ名義で発表されています。こちらで全曲を聴くことが可能。
